Meet author Kekla Magoon at the 30th Annual Zora Neale Hurston Festival of the Arts and Humanities. Event will take place at the Life Center Church, located at 63 E Kennedy Blvd, Eatonville, FL 32751.
DescriptionKekla Magoon will read from and discuss her book, Shadows of Sherwood, winner of the Sunshine State Young Readers Award for grades 6-8.
Shadows of Sherwood tells the story of Robyn Loxley, a twelve-year old who must learn to fend for herself when her parents disappear and her city is taken over by a harsh governor. Kicking off a new series with an unforgettable heroine and a diverse band of characters, readers will be treated to feats of courage and daring deeds as Robyn and her band find their way in this cruel, new world. Kekla Magoon is the author of nine novels, including The Rock and the River and How It Went Down. She has received an NAACP Image Award, the John Steptoe New Talent Award and two Coretta Scott King Honors. She lives and writes in Vermont, where she also teaches writing. The Orlando Public Library is the headquarters and resource center for the Orange County Library System. The Library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in the Orlando Public Library include Children's, Library Central, and Learning Central. The Children's Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. The Technology and Education Center is located on the second floor and includes the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity. The Friends of the Library Third Floor Bookstore is open daily and recycles withdrawn and donated books to the community.
