Aloha! Every year, on May 1st, people in Hawai’i celebrate May Day with leis, music, and hula. Join us for some Lei Day fun with history, lei making, and hula for all ages. Recommended for families.
Families will learn about the tradition of Lei Day celebrated throughout Hawai’i on this first day of May. Basic footwork, hand expression, and hip movements will be taught through the art of hula dance to tell a story. A fun and easy paper lei craft to round out the program will help to develop children’s fine motor skills, color identification, and the use of patterns. An optional impromptu hula performance and parade of leis to celebrate the day and end the program in an authentic way.
