Looking to add some color to your needles? Learn various techniques to broaden your knitting skills and achieve endless possibilities for creating vibrant designs.
This is a 3-class series (2 weeks per class) running Tuesdays, August 6 through September 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
If you want more than one color in your project, that’s Colorwork. It’s important to note that not all colorwork techniques are suitable for every project. We'll explore 3 techniques, look at the advantages and how each is best suited for specific projects. Learn how to incorporate leftover scraps of yarn for Intarsia (creating blocks of color), or use that not quite full skein for Mosaic (slip stitch lines of color) or Stranded (simple to complex patterns of color - also known as Fair Isle knitting).
Session 1: We'll focus on Intarsia which creates blocks of color. Sometimes called “picture knitting”, we'll discover how to switch colors mid-row to create large areas of color to knit a square swatch with a heart motif.
Session 2: Using Mosaic knitting, only one color is used per row and by using slip stitches, we'll create a beautiful design block that can be used as a coaster, dishcloth, potholder or afghan square.
Session 3: The most complex color technique is Stranded or Fair Isle knitting. We'll look at different techniques on how to hold two different colors of yarn as we incorporate color into an intricate pattern.
**Required Materials: students must bring the following materials to complete the project:
