Contribute your talents to the annual Yarnfiti Community Art Project. Join us in crafting a coral reef seascape. Learn how to knit seashell coasters while learning new techniques.

The Yarnfiti Community Arts Project is a collaborative event where individuals contribute pieces to the overall project. This year's installation will be unveiled at the Fall Fiber Festival.

Required Materials: Students must bring the following materials to complete the project: 

  • 1 skein of cotton yarn (size 3 or 4)
  • 1 skein of cotton yarn (size 3 or 4) in a contrasting color
  • 1 set of four double pointed knitting needles two sizes smaller than indicated for the yarn's weight 

Note: Basic knitting skills (including casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, and binding off) are necessary to start this project.  New to knitting? Check out our beginning Knit It series of knitting classes: www.ocls.info/classes.

About the branch

The Southwest Branch opened on March 21, 1989 in a beautiful Mediterranean style building designed by Schweizer and Associates Architecture Firm, who also designed the Orlando Public Library. Serving the Dr. Phillips and Metrowest communities, Southwest is near International Drive and the attractions. Southwest is a popular place for local adults, children, students and tourists.
