Learn basic hand sewing stitches and techniques to secure, hem and mend fabric. This is a 4 week series (8/6, 8/13, 8/20, 8/27). Week 1: Introduction to materials and basic hand sewing stitches.
Series Schedule:
Week 1: Introduction to materials and basic hand sewing stitches.
Week 2: Learn to hand hem garments in a neat and professional manner.
Week 3: Use hand sewing techniques to repair and mend fabric
Week 4: Add some designs to your mending to create a whole new fabric surface.
Recommended Materials:
2 pieces of 6”X 6” piece of cotton fabric (solid colors preferred)
1 piece Scrap cotton fabric to practice on (approximately 8” X 8 “ )-feel free to substitute with any solid color scrap fabric on hand because this will only be used for practicing hand stitches.
Thread: Sewing thread in a contrast color (feel free to substitute with any thread compatible with your needle)
4 pieces of scrap cotton fabric swatches to practice for mending
Needle: Hand Sewing, Embroidery, or crewel needle (feel free to substitute with any hand sewing needles on hand)
Scissors
Thimble
Needle Threader (optional)
Iron (optional)
Ironing Board (optional)
Ruler and pencil (optional)
