Let’s pop the hood and look underneath the hull to learn how boats float and move. Then we’ll craft our own boats to compete in the Origami Regatta. Recommended for ages 13-18.
After a quick presentation about how boats float and move, and an explanation of how wind powers a sailboat, teens will use their creativity and growth mindset to fold their own paper boat then compete in the Origami Regatta. Origami is the Asian art of folding paper into objects. Using their critical thinking skills and what they have learned about wind dynamics for sailboats, teens will guide their paper boat around the regatta course and over the finish line. The winning skipper will receive a prize.

Located in a small "Florida Cracker" style building, with an appealing wrap-around porch, the Windermere branch has an interesting history that spans over four decades. Begun as a town library, it became a branch of the Orange County Library System in August 1991. The current building was constructed through the efforts and the generous donations of many Windermere residents, including those of the Franklin P. Chase Family.
