Add some sweetness to your holiday décor with a festive gingerbread house. Students will be able to practice basic stitches (single, half-double) while constructing the foundation of the house.

Additional stitches such as crocodile, bobble, surface, and shell will also be introduced to help bring all your festive flair to life. Joining techniques and structural support options will be demonstrated to ensure your house is built to last!

  • Class Duration: 2 hours
  • Age Requirements: 13-Adult
  • Recommended Prerequisite: Let's Crochet Level 2
  • Required Skills: Chain, single and double crochet
  • Materials Fee: None
  • Out of District Fee: $30 (includes class and materials fees)

        Required Materials: Students must bring the following materials to complete the project:

        • Pattern: Provided during class
        • Yarn:
          • 2 Skeins worsted weight yarn in a “gingerbread” color. Consider golden yellows, tan, or browns.
          • 1 Skein worsted weight yarn in white
          • 1 Skein (quantity may vary) worsted weight yarn(s) in color(s) of your choice for decorations. Consider using scraps quantities leftover from another project!
        • Hook: Size G (4 mm)
        • Notions:
          • Chipboard (such as a cereal box for) for structural support
          • Stitch markers
          • Yarn needle
          • Scissors

        The Orlando Public Library is the headquarters and resource center for the Orange County Library System. The Library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in the Orlando Public Library include Children's, Library Central, and Learning Central. The Children's Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. The Technology and Education Center is located on the second floor and includes the Dorothy Lumley Melrose Center for Technology, Innovation and Creativity. The Friends of the Library Third Floor Bookstore is open daily and recycles withdrawn and donated books to the community.
