Understanding how structure and pace work together helps you craft a book that keeps readers turning pages. Author Michael Mammay will lead a workshop on structure and pacing in speculative fiction.
Structure and pace in a novel are often related. Understanding how they work together can help you craft a book that keeps the reader turning pages deep into the night. Author Michael Mammay will lead a one-hour workshop on structure and pacing in speculative fiction. The workshop will cover structural elements including inciting events, plot points, and the midpoint, and we will discuss how structure can expand creativity rather than restricting it. In the second half of the workshop we will discuss the relationship between structure and pace in both the novel overall and in individual scenes. While Michael is a science fiction author, this workshop is generic enough that it will benefit writers of mysteries and thrillers as well.
Michael Mammay is the author of the Planetside series from Harper Voyager, the third book of which, Colonyside, releases on December 29th. Planetside was selected by Library Journal as one of the best books of 2018, and both Spaceside and Colonyside received starred reviews. Michael is a retired army officer and lives in Georgia with his wife.
